The program plan aims to lower drug use in Duval County, FL. The county experienced an increase in drug overdose deaths, particularly in the 15-24 age group. Englewood Elementary School, within Health Zone 2, has a high-risk student population. The program goal is to decrease drug use rates in the K-12 public school population of Health Zone 2. It will use the evidence-based LifeSkills Training Program to address risk factors associated with substance use and to promote drug resistance. The program will employ Impact Learner and Behavioral Objectives and will utilize Fishbein’s integrated behavioral model and a combination of theories to guide the program. In the U.S., Florida has the highest rates of food insecurity, obesity, and chronic diseases related to obesity, compared to national data (Wright et al., 2018). The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reports that 23.5 million Americans live in food deserts, with 1.25 million of those people residing in Florida’s food deserts (Wright et al., 2018). A 2019 study, using 2015 data, found that forty of Jacksonville’s census tracts, out of 173, were Food Deserts (TBCG, 2019).
